- The winery, located at the foot of the Sierra de Gredos, becomes part of Alma Carraovejas and becomes its sixth winemaking project.
- Despite its youth, Bodega Marañones has been a pioneer in the area producing quality wines and has positioned itself as a national and international reference in the Gredos area, specifically in the DO Vinos de Madrid.
San Martín de Valdeiglesias, August 12, 2021. – Alma Carraovejas will give continuity to Bodega Marañones, a benchmark winemaking project both in the Vinos de Madrid DO and in the entire Gredos area. Marañones is widely recognized for the quality of its wines in Spain and internationally. The team led by Pedro Ruiz Aragoneses will take over the reins of this unique project located in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, to which the owner and founder, José Fernando Cornejo, will also remain linked.
The team that has been working regularly at Bodega Marañones will continue at Alma Carraovejas. A team that since the birth of the project has fought to put the focus on this area of Gredos with José Fernando Cornejo at the head. Thanks to an intense work of recovery of old vines and a firm commitment to the quality of its wines, Marañones has become a pioneer and standard bearer of a historic region such as Gredos. A determined effort to rescue this genuine environment that has already reaped great achievements despite the relative youth of the winery.
Honesty with the landscape
The landscape and vineyards of Bodega Marañones are located at the confluence of the Gredos and Guadarrama mountain ranges and grow on granitic soil that forms a mosaic of vineyards of exceptional scenic and oenological richness. The extraordinary beauty of the Marañones estate is framed in a wine-growing area with a heritage as few can be found in the peninsula, where Garnacha, Albillo Real and other autochthonous varieties are the protagonists.
Its landscapes are located between 650 and 850 meters above sea level; the combination of geology, climate and soils provides unique conditions for the cultivation of vines. Bodega Marañones has understood the landscape as a heritage since its beginnings and has masterfully integrated it into its wines as a determining factor.
Pedro Ruiz has emphasized that “the philosophy of maximum respect for the vineyard, honesty with the landscape, with its culture, with its people and devotion to the environment have been decisive in making this decision. Marañones is a project that, like all those that make up Alma, transcends and shares our vision of creating unforgettable experiences around wine, betting on unique projects in search of a higher purpose, with the commitment to build a unique legacy”.
Perpetuating a unique legacy
Both Pedro and his team remain committed to rescue and recover original and exciting projects throughout the Spanish geography with the aim of creating a unique legacy. Alma’s objective will be to give continuity to that philosophy that goes “beyond wine” and that motivated the creation of Bodega Marañones; contributing all the experience and the baggage harvested by a team already present in five appellations of origin and that exceeds 200 people. Bodega Marañones thus becomes Alma’s sixth wine project together with Pago de Carraovejas, Ossian, Milsetentayseis, Viña Meín – Emilio Rojo and Aiurri, to which must be added the importer of singular wines SV Wines, the Fundación Cultura Líquida and the recently awarded Michelin-starred Ambivium Restaurant.
