FINCA MARAÑONES

We invite you to discover some of the most special places of the Finca Marañones. Those that inspire us, that invite us to think, to enjoy our landscape. Those special corners that take us back in time, where we think about all those people who have preceded us and the legacy they have left us.

MIRADOR DE LAS ESTRELLAS

The ‘Mirador de las Estrellas’ is located in the highest part of the estate, an open area where you can lie down and enjoy the starry mantle that covers Gredos.

The lines of a simple metallic cube help to frame the gaze, to focus the attention and to put more interest in what is being observed.

Being open does not eliminate the rest of the sky, but the framing offers the contemplation of an isolated area, which is part of a whole. Like us, we are something minimal, but we are part of the whole of life.

PEÑA CABALLERA

PEÑA CABALLERA

Peña Caballera is another of the unique spaces of Finca Marañones, which also gives its name to a specific area of the estate: to a plot of land and to the wine we obtain from it.

It is a huge and ancestral stone, with thousands and thousands of years of geology, placed by nature on top of another rock. The lower one is noticeably smaller, so the larger one creates a refuge space in the middle of the estate.

It is surrounded by vegetation: oaks, cornicabras, chaparras, and holm oaks that turn this magical space into a shady and cool corner. Under this rock we tasted our wines. There is nothing better to feel everything that wine transmits than to sit in the middle of nature and know that we are protected by it.

ROCA DE LAS OFRENDAS

I t is the highest point of the whole estate and from where you can see the whole surroundings: the Peña of Cadalso, the village of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Cebreros, the beginning of the Valle del Tiétar and the hill of Guisando.

The curious thing about this formation is that in the upper part of one of these rocks there are some cracks in the ground, apart from some strange circular hollows with an opening in one of the sides (a kind of closed ‘C’). These openings or sort of channels make us think that they could be where the blood of the animals drained after sacrificing them and offering them to the gods.

Many years ago we received an anthropologist who explained to us that, in a place like this, it is normal for ancient civilizations to perform some kind of ritual. Whether it is true or not, it connects with the rest of the elements that we have in the farm and the space is spectacular since, in addition, through a small forest of chaparras it connects directly with Peña Caballera.

FINCA PIES DESCALZOS

The Finca Pies Descalzos is the place where the grapes of our Peña Cruzada come from.

At the time of the acquisition of the estate, Fernando Cornejo, promoter of the project, went to see it with the owner at the time who, when he got out of the car, took off his shoes to gain access. As the saying goes, “wherever you go, do what you see people there doing”, Fernando did the same without asking.

They walked through the vineyard without shoes, feeling the vineyard, so neat, so clean, and Fernando fell in love.
The reason why the owner did so is still unknown. But Fernando preferred not to ask.

ANFITEATRO

T he initial intention was to cover a natural hole, but there is a vertical cut of live rock of about 3m. that allows us to see the morphology of the ground, so we prefer to be faithful to this formation.

However, we decided to complete the semicircle with granite seats from the Cadalso quarry. They are broken, irregular pieces, each one with its sores, with holes. Because nature is uneven. The space is spectacular.

The vines are above the spectators, you can see the structure of the soil and how the vines are seated. It helps to connect with the vineyard, its structure, its characteristics and the environment.
