GARNACHA TINTA

MARAÑONES TINTO 2020

Marañones 2020 is an estate wine with the character of the mesoclimate and the three types of Gredos granite: white granite, brown granite and pink granite. The sandy texture and the goblet training of the 50 to 70-year-old Garnacha vines reveal a unique identity with the blend of the estate’s small plots. The altitude of over 800 metres favours a slow ripening of the grapes. The winds help to manage viticulture in an extremely environmentally friendly way. The ecosystem created brings a particular plurality to the wines.

Pure expression of the Marañones estate. The mineral personality of granite. The vivacity of Grenache and the nobility of a historic soil. Texture, length and elegance.

A dream vintage

The 2020 vintage was a great climatic year in the area; the winter started with lower-than-usual rainfall. The rains in the second half of March and April slowed down the start of the plant cycle. The development of the vine was very fast and involved extra work to maintain the balance in viticulture. The summer was very dry and hot. A somewhat rainy August mitigated the lack of continuous rainfall and facilitated the final development of the vines. The red varieties were harvested between 1st and 18th September.

The three granites of Marañones

At an altitude of more than 800 metres above sea level, in a mosaic of small plots on mountainous terrain, the Marañones estate can be found. The three types of granite found in San Martín de Valdeiglesias coexist in this environment: white, brown and pink granite. The small Garnacha vines that dot the estate give rise to Marañones. The vines are between 50 and 70 years old and maintain the goblet training features of San Martín’s viticultural history. The slopes formed by the Alto Alberche valley provide an excellent opportunity for organic viticulture. This environmentally friendly philosophy makes it possible to achieve an optimal balance in the ecosystem of the estate and in the personality of the wines.

An aged Garnacha

Marañones 2020 comes exclusively from the estate of the same name, located on a dominant height above the Alto Alberche valley. During the harvest, the bunches were hand-picked in 12 kg crates. The selected grapes were brought to the winery to begin the winemaking process with a cold pre-fermentation maceration. Indigenous yeasts were used for fermentation. The wine was made in 33-hectolitre French oak vats, with pigeage and foot treading. The wine was subsequently aged for 12 months in used 500-litre French oak barrels and 30-hectolitre foudres. This wine has not been subjected to stabilisation, clarification or filtration processes. Bottling took place in the spring of 2021. Contain sulfites.
