At nearby Bodegas Marañones, located at an altitude of some 2,800 feet (850 meters) above sea level, winemaker Fernando García Alonso explained how Garnacha grapes have adapted to dryness, and often share vineyard space with other vegetation in the region—including almond, orange and olive trees as well as plantains. Of their 86 acres (35 hectares) of vines, half are grown biodynamically.
